I Get To.....

Updated: Nov 16

Not long ago, my best friend and I were talking, comparing our busy schedules and sharing that all-too-familiar feeling of being overwhelmed. As entrepreneurs, we both have long to-do lists, constant deadlines, and a running tally of “have to” items. A few days after our conversation, I saw a post on social media that struck a chord—a reminder to view our obligations/must do's through a different lens. It got me thinking about all the things I “have to” do, and I felt my mindset begin to shift.

What if, instead of feeling burdened, I recognized the privilege in these tasks? What if I remembered that I get to do them?

In my morning meditation, this thought stayed with me, reshaping my outlook on everything. I began to see the richness in what I get to do each day. Yes, I have a busy week ahead, with responsibilities to my business, my family, and my community, but what a privilege it is to be in these roles.

I get to…

  • Make memories as a mom, witnessing each milestone and new experience

  • Support and grow in partnership as a wife, sharing life’s journey together

  • Continue building a business that lets me pour my heart into work I love

  • Wake up each day with a fresh start

  • Have access to clean water and a warm home

  • Step outside and enjoy the beauty of nature

This shift from have to to get to changes everything. Not only do I find gratitude in what once felt like obligations, but I also get to focus on what matters most. I’m more mindful about setting boundaries and prioritizing what adds value to my life. This perspective lets me let go of what doesn’t serve me, freeing up space for the things that truly matter.

This is also what I hope to do through The Grey House—to create a space where people can be fully present with their crafts, with the people they’re with, or even with themselves. Through classes and experiences, I want to help people slow down, recenter, and connect with what matters to them. Whether it’s time with family, learning something new, or simply enjoying a quiet moment, my goal is to offer an environment where each person can find a way to pause and bring intention into their life.

I’m learning that pausing, being present, and embracing these moments as privileges rather than burdens lets me enjoy the beauty of my journey while also setting boundaries that honor my time and energy.

Maybe today you’ll see a similar sign, or perhaps this post will remind you too. What are the things in your life that you “get to” do, and how do you prioritize what’s most important?
